Recent Events

March has been a mixed month weather wise with the snow ruining our outings but we have still enjoyed other activities……

We have done some sand art jars which are displayed around the home, canvas painting, been using the power plate most days to strengthen muscles using whole body vibrations, DVD afternoons with popcorn, pamper afternoons, we have had walks around the green (weather permitting), we have done chair- based exercises, quizzes, reminiscing and games. The PAT dog Bailey has visited Elmfield.

Tina from High Kicks and Heels has done her monthly show for our residents which was thoroughly enjoyed.

Unfortunately, torrential rain meant that we were unable to attend the quarterly tea dance at HG Wells as residents would be put at risk of catching cold/ flu as a result of the weather.

On Good Friday a large group of residents went to the Hen and Chickens pub for lunch. It had been a few weeks since Niccii was on holiday but we were made to feel as welcome as ever and we all throughly enjoyed our meals.

We had our usual church service with Alison and Pauline.

Upcoming events:

The annual Easter Party will be held on Easter Monday 2nd April at 2;30pm. Everyone is welcome and we will be entertained by Graham and Kiah who are highly recommended. A buffet and an Easter quiz will keep everyone entertained.

Residents will also have their chocolate Easter eggs which I am sure will go down a treat, everyone loves chocolate!

On Easter Sunday we will have our traditional leg of lamb dinner with all the Sunday roast trimmings.

Good news…… some of our residents and relatives will remember the cut fluffy chicks we had from eggs until they were approx 10 days old? Niccii has ordered the same package: on 30th April the chick eggs and incubator will be delivered to Elmfield and the eggs will hatch a day or two later which we then keep until 10th May. Last year all residents handled the chicks and watching the eggs for cracks and hatching was a great conversation starter for all as well as unifying everyone together with a common interest. Their arrival is highly anticipated!

Niccii is organising a residents and relative’s meeting for Tuesday 17th April at 3pm. All residents, families and friends are welcome to attend. Recent meetings have been productive and it is hoped that this one will also be informative and beneficial. Refreshments will be provided.

Tina from High Kicks and Heels will be at Elmfield for her monthly performance on Wednesday  in April.

Rikki the chiropodist will be in on Monday 16th and Wednesday 18th to attend to our resident’s podiatory needs.

Nicky the hairdresser will be in on Thursday the 5th and 19th  April.

Our monthly church service will be held at Elmfield at 2:30pm on Tuesday 24th April.

Pub lunches will be held on Wednesday 11th and 25th April leaving Elmfield at 12:30pm.

Staff and resident changes:

Sadly, we had an unexpected death of Adelaide (Chris) Deamer on 28th March. She passed away in her sleep and thankfully had been visited by all three of her children earlier that day which was a rare occurrence. Our thoughts ad condolences have been given to her family.

There have been no changes to the staffing team.

Birthdays:

March was a busy month for birthdays. We had a double birthday weekend in early March with Margaret Horner celebrating her 90th birthday on 3rd March followed by Nora Cotes turning 94 years old the following day on the 4th March.

We held a joint tea party on the 4th for them both.

Margaret had lots of family visitors and Nora was taken to church on the morning of her birthday where she was treated as a VIP and rightly so!

Later on, in the month Jan Harrison celebrated her 74th birthday. (see photo above). She also had visits from family and went out for lunch. At teatime Jan enjoyed being the centre of attention for her tea party and had a great time.
